Below is the description for a hands-on workshop to be led by German dancer/director Lutz Gregor. The registration form for this workshop can be found on-line - www.dancefilmsassn.org - festival page. PHYSICAL CINEMA Dance for the Camera - Camera for Dance January 13-15, 10am-1pm Studio Maestro $150 Instructor: Lutz Gregor In the first part of this workshop we will work on some basic exercises in visual perception and physical awareness as well as synchronization of movement and sight to examine the relation between the human eye and the camera. We will develop a camera work in which the camera doesn't watch the movement from outside but dances itself. This leads us into improvised shooting of improvised movement and later into precisely constructed shots of choreographed movement. The final product will be a 2 minute duet. If desired at the conclusion of the workshop, there will be a public showing performing the duet, the camera choreography and the video. All the participants, dancers and filmmakers, will move and shoot in front of and behind the camera. Bring your own digital cameras with a tape. Please make check payable to Dance Films Association and mail it to: DFA Physical Cinema Workshop 48 W. 21st St., #907 NY, NY 10010 A non-refundable deposit of $25 must be received by December 23, 2002 For more information, contact (212) 727-0764 or e-mail: dfa5@earthlink.net.
