Dear comrades, I am pleased to let you all know that the National Museum of Contemporary Art (based in Athens Greece) have commissioned "Dancing With The Virtual Dervish, Virtual Bodies" (my first virtual reality work) for an installation at the museum during the period of October 14, 2002 through January 15, 2003. The work was created in collaboration with visual artist Professor Diane Gromala and architect Marco Novak at the Banff Centre for the Arts with major funding support from the Canadian Government. I will be traveling to Athens on October 7 with my colleagues to mount the work and conduct the first performance that is scheduled for October 14, 2002. A public Lecture/informance that is also scheduled for October 16 will follow. After our departure, the museum visitors will be able to experience the work (one by one) by wearing a head mounted set/display and an electronic glove that is designed to assist them in the navigational process. I am particularly excited about this opportunity because the work have never been fully mounted after it was first created and performed in May of 1994 at the Cybespace Conference, Banff Centre for the Arts. The work is simply to expansive and complicated to mount. I am hopping that following the Athens experience other museums will follow.
