Hello all,

Following the very successful first and second summer institute of 
technology (june 2000 and june 2001) I am announcing :

The Third  Yacov's Summer Institute of Technology Workshop/Laboratory

"The Automated Body"

Where:	 Austin Texas
Location;	 Yacov's Yafa Me-od Lab 
When:	Monday June 10- Friday June 28, 2002.
Fee:	$1250

Please note, only five attendees will be accepted.  Acceptance is 
based on an phone or e-mail interview that I will personally conduct. 
Please provide e-mail and voice mail information.

Each member will be provided with individual supervision for a 
minimum of four hours daily, four additional hours will be made 
available for training and assignments. Members will be provided with 
top of the line, fully loaded workstation (G4).  All the required 
software for the workshop will be provided.

A special section of the workshop/laboratory will be devoted to 
wearable computers. Three different wearable suite will be introduced 
followed by demonstrations and lectures.

Course Objectives and Content:
The bulk of the workshop will be devoted to providing attendees with 
hands-on experience, how to do, and how to make work, how to begin 
creating a computerized theatrical framework that is technologically 
supported, progressing through a step-by-step process, assuring a 
high level of understanding of all the complexities and issues 
related to the use of these technologies in performance. Attendees 
will meet with additional experts from the field as needed

You will learn/explore the following:

  concepts of Virtual reality and Cyberspace
notions and concepts of interactive technologies.
  electronic dance surfaces
  "softVNS"
intro to various sensory elements and their potential use, making 
customized interactive elements of your choice "cyberPRINT" 
"Electronic Sensory Wearables" and the "Wearable Computer"
notions of 3D rendering processes and texture mapping techniques as 
effective companions to material created on the computer with various 
applications and programs.
video captures, video editing, and output to video projections.
final cut editing techniques
create a computerized environment that will facilitate interaction 
between several applications in order to create a 3D world. The world 
will include both CyberHumans as well as theatrical cyber-props.
how to create and combine Flash 5.0 images, Life Forms 3.9, Poser 
4.0, Painter 5.0 and PhotoShop 6.0 Images and dynamically transport 
them to Quick Time Movies and other related applications


The following are the software applications that you will learn about 
during the workshop:

3D Studio Max 4.0 (pc platform)

Adobe After Effects 5.0
Fire-wire-video input and video output
Final Cut Pro 3.0 editing software,
Quick Time
Flash5 and virtual 3D
Painter 3D and Painter 5.0
PhotoShop 6.0
Poser 4.0 + Poser Pro-Pack
Life forms 3.9

Conclusion:

At the conclusion of the three-week workshop, participants will 
demonstrate a greater understanding of issues directly related to the 
creation of a totally mounted computerized (or virtual) performance 
environment. In addition participants will acquire the technological 
tools that will enable them to think of the computer as a performance 
environment, as an interactive world, and or your personal 
alternative theatrical performance space

Only the most committed individuals that are seriously interested in 
the intense learning of the technology should apply.
