RE: A question....

David,

Please refer to http://www.kinetic-impulse.com/DigiPerfTech_Index.htm for an
basic breakdown of some of the motion capture systems available.

Lifeforms will accept BioVision (bvh) motion capture data format which is
directly output from some systems - other formats can be converted using
products such as Filmbox from Kaydara.

Your budget is the prime concern regarding which motion capture system you
purchase. Vicon and Motion Analysis optical rigs are the most expensive,
physical exoskeleton systems the least.

What sort of budget do you have?
What is the end result you are trying to achieve?

We design performance capture studios, from feature film to biomechanics, so
please feel free to get in touch if you need more help.

P.S. Sorry for those who were unable to get to the animation examples
referred to in my last discussion with Scott about 'Stillness' -
http://www.kinetic-impulse.com/text/download_movies_free_motion_capture_data
/experimental_art/human_motion_capture_stillness.html.

I've move the web-host from the USA to the UK and it's up-and running
normally now. Just a side note - E-Mail Addresses are becoming very
important in on-line business. The delay in getting the site up immediately
was due to Network Solutions and my previous hosting company trying to send
me E-Mails to a defunct address even though I had notified them of a 'change
of address'. Their Auto-responders spent days trying to get hold of me at
an address that no-longer exists. No-wonder some USA citizens give their
children E-Mail Addresses at birth!! ;)

Regards,

Richard Widgery

Sal,

What kind of motion capture are you referring to? If I read David
correctly, he is considering about Motion Capture animation which has
nothing to do with iMovie or Firewire Ports until you are very far along in
the pipeline and ready to output... which means after the capture, clean up
of data and rendering.

David, I wrote a paper that describes the basic hardware/software....etc.
I'll send it under separate cover. Also, check on the dance-tech archives.
There has been some discussion about motion and I believe there references
to sites such as Vicon, Motion Analysis (both optical systems) and others.

Hope this helps,
Lisa
