11 th INTERNATIONAL VIDEODANCE GRAND PRIZE
(with new section about dance and digital media)

The Grand Prix International Vidéo Danse is a competition designed to 
encourage the art of dancing within the framework of audiovisual and 
multimedia productions.  The aims are to :

-STIMULATE choreographic creation through incorporation of the latest 
audiovisual techniques.
-DEVELOP the production of high quality audiovisual programmes in 
terms of choreographic creativity as well as of technical standards.
-FACILITATE access for the dancing profession to information on 
today's tendencies and research within the framework of audiovisual 
techniques throughout the world.
-SUPPORT contacts between choreographers, video producers and 
television network producers.
-ENCOURAGE collaboration between choreographers and composers by 
giving the latter impetus to write original scores suitable for 
video-dance production.
-ESTABLISH an international forum for dance and audiovisual professionals.
-CREATE a kind of "dance memory" or archive for the benefit of future 
students of dance and television.

A) CATEGORIES BETWEEN THE NEXT TWO LINES

Contestants may enter their production(s) in one or several of the 
following categories :

- VIDEO DANCE CREATION : Composition in which the choreography is 
either an original creation for video, or a choreographic recreation 
for the camera, and thus an independent product.

- RECORDED STAGE PERFORMANCE :
Production aimed at an audiovisual programme, and filmed either 
during a performance, or in a studio.

- REPORTING AND DOCUMENTARY:
Video production on a dance-related subject (interview, profile, 
instruction, research, etc.).

- NEW TECHNOLOGY :
- Off-line project produced on or for a computer and stored on a CD-ROM or
DVD-ROM.
- On-line : Internet site highlighting information on and an 
awareness of the world of choreography.

- MUSICAL SCORE :
Score especially composed for a video dance production.

- DANCE, A WORLDWIDE TRADITION CID/UNESCO PEACE AWARD :
Production highlighting the heritage of dance throughout the world.

1. Normes techniques / technical standards
A. Chaque vidéocassette doit porter sur sa jaquette / each 
videocassette cover must be marked with the following :
- titre / title
- durée / length
- standard (pal, secam, NTSC) / color standard (pal, secam, NTSC)
- couleur ou noir & blanc / color or black & white
- son (mono, stéréo, canaux) / sound (mono, stereo, channels).

B. 30" environ de barre couleur au standard du film et 10" environ de 
1000hz son, afin d'assurer le meilleur réglage requis pour la 
meilleure diffusion possible (même en cas de copie) / About 30" of 
color bar at the film standard and about 10" of 1000Hz sound, so that 
adjustments can be made to give top broadcasting quality (also 
applies to copies).

C. Le Jury "Reportage-Documentaire" se tenant à New-York, il est 
fortement recommandé de présenter une version sous-titrée en anglais 
de la production (si elle n'est pas réalisée dans cette langue) ou au 
moins de joindre à l'inscription une version anglaise dactylographiée 
du texte / The jury "Reporting and Documentary" will convene in New 
York. It is therefore stongly recommended to provide a version of the 
production with English subtitles, in cases where English is not the 
original language, and/or to accompany each entry with a printed text 
in English.

C) RULES BELOW NEXT TWO LINES

Article 1. Any private individual or organization  having completed 
an audiovisual production since 1st January, 1996, is eligible to 
participate in the competition.

Article 2. Individuals or organizations wishing to submit productions 
to the competition should send their completed entry(ies) to the 
Administration Office before the closing date of January 25th, 2001.

Article 3. Contestants may enter their production(s) in one or 
several of the following categories
- Video Dance Creation
- Recorded Stage Performance
- Reporting and Documentary
- Musical Score
- New Technology, both on-line and off-line
- Dance, A Worldwide Tradition - CID/UNESCO Peace Award

Article 4. The winner in each category will receive a Trophy from a 
sponsor.  This Trophy will be presented to the individual or 
organization that entered the production into competition, or to any 
other person explicitly specified in writing by the winner.

Article 5. Financial Requirements
a) The entrance fee per organization or per individual is 50 Euros 
(or its equivalent in US Dollars :about 45 US$) irrespective of the 
number of productions entered into competition.
b) All organizations or individuals may enter a production in several 
categories.  In this case, no additional entrance fee will be charged.

Article 6. Only complete entries will be accepted as follows
- One high quality VHS copy or DVD
- One high quality VHS copy or DVD for each additional category
- The entry form, fully completed on both sides
- One colour or black & white photo and/or one 24 x 36 or 6 x 6 slide 
of the competing production, free of rights
- Entrance fee (see Article 5).  The fee is payable by cheque to 
Grand Prix International Vidéo Danse and must be enclosed with the 
entry form.  A receipt indicating the entry's registration number 
will be sent out as soon as we receive the complete file.
- Should a production be nominated for a prize within its category, a 
Betacam tape or DVD will be requested to ensure a technically sound 
presentation to the Final Jury.

Article 7. If a production is entered by more than one individual 
organization, only the first complete dossier received will be 
accepeted (its registration number will provide proof of the order in 
which it was received).

Article 8. There is no limit to the number
of productions that may be entered by an individual or organization, 
nor to the length of each
production.

Article 9. If a participant enters several productions in the 
competition, it is compulsory to provide an individual video tape for 
each entry.

Article 10. All video tapes sent by mail must be marked "viewing copy 
for competition, no commercial value".  Any forwarding costs for the 
video tapes will be charged to the sender.

Article 11. The Grand Prix International Vidéo Danse will not be held 
responsible for any damage incurred to the entry material during the 
normal handling of the video tapes.

Article 12. The video tapes of each production will remain the 
property of the Administration Office of the Grand Prix International 
Vidéo Danse for the competition's archives.  These archives are 
available for consultation at the Head Office of the Grand Prix 
International Vidéo Danse upon authorization from the Administration 
Office.

Article 13. All individuals or organizations taking part in the 
competition agree, through their participation, to the free use 
throughout the competition, as well as throughout the year, of their 
productions in non-commercial presentations and promotions of the 
Grand Prix International Vidéo Danse. A VHS copy of each winning 
production will be placed in the archives of the Dance Collection in 
New York.

Article 14. The winners are requested to mention
in the credits of their production(s) any prizes obtained in the 11th 
Grand Prix International Vidéo Danse competition.

Article 15. Contestants who have returned their completed entry 
form(s) to the Administration Office agree to abide by all the 
competition rules.  The rules are available in both French and 
English.  In any litigation, the French version is legally binding.
