I wanted to thank Scott deLahunta for making available his excellent, truly fascinating research report on "TRANSDANCE, " which took place in Athens last May. http://huizen.dds.nl/~sdela/transdance/report/ Also, by saying this, I want to send congratulations to Yiannis Skourogiannis and his collaborators on the ALAS/"e-phos 2001" team, for being able to organize convene such a strong research lab environment for the event. Since you all may remember our online discussion about a future IDAT conference/festival, and as you may recall my own preference for an experimental laboratory with several parallel processes (accompanied by conceptual and theoretical seminars), the occasion of TRANSDANCE makes me want to ask a few further logistical questions. Scott - if you don't mind: 1. how many people participated in the Transdance research lab during the 10 days? 2. was there not also a "conference" at the end of May that presented public lectures and discussions, and how were those lectures related to/connected to the research processes you describe? 3. Were the performances or research demos open to the public, and how was the audience attendance, or was there discussion about a potentially much wider online audience? Were attempts made to link up e-phos with other places? (I know we were actually hoping to link up, with Stelarc being at OSU at the very same time, but somehow we couldn't work it out schedule-wise and technically), and do you see it as a feasible possibility to hold such research labs in teleconference with more than one site? 4. Was the event publicized within the International Festival of Film and New Media, or separately, and why was the title "Transdance" chosen? For example, Marcel.li Antunez Roca's APHASIA - would you call it a "new media performance piece? or is the creation of work with "wearable computer" a system- category that would be typical of the emergent phenomena you describe? (more about this in separate mail). thanks greetings Johannes Birringer OSU/AlienNation Co. http://www.aliennationcompany.com
