Re: BigEye equivalent for sound files

Sita,

It might be useful to think of MIDI as the means of communication, rather
than the end result in regard to your situation. If you use software (such
as SuperCollider or Max/MSP) or hardware (such as a sampler) that is
MIDI-controllable, then you can indeed use BigEye to manipulate sound files.
You don't actually need any (or at least not much) MIDI gear to do this.

For instance, you can route the MIDI out of BigEye over the IAC Bus (using
OMS) and into Max/MSP without the data ever leaving the computer. The MIDI
data can then help you manipulate sound files among other things. This can
eat up a lot of your processor power, so sometimes two computer are needed.
These computers could be linked with simple MIDI interfaces (like the MOTU
FastLane) or a network connection, such as ethernet. It gets a bit more
complicated, but is still quite possible.

Of course, if you are using Max/MSP, you could also check out Eric Singer's
video tracking object called Cyclops: http://www.ericsinger.com

Hope this helps a bit,

Peter
