Purely from a strategic point of view, ask "what reaction did Bin Laden want?" I'm afraid the American reaction will simply give him what he planned on. Like George Bush, his son will attack an enemy with the intention of "taking him out", and very likely fail. As in the Gulf war, the American announced strategy will likely result in thousands of new deaths, augmenting the spiral of animosity and garanteeing that future generations will have their own martyrs. The American announced strategy may provoke the overthrow of "moderate" Moslem countries, as their leaders are confronted with their own people. Bush says this is "war". It is not a war that can be won by giving the enemy exactly what he is seeking. David Vaughn
