BUD BLUMENTHAL proposes Intensive workshop of research in contemporary dance and composition for professionals. From Monday the 18 June through Friday 22 June 2001 10h - 12h30 training and research,14h -17h research and composition Limited to 20 participants (CVs required) Cost: 7500 BEF The workshop is intended for dance professionals who are presently active performing on stage or choreographing for the stage. It is essential that the participant has attained the professional level and is in correct physical condition capable of following a demanding contemporary class and execute complex choreography for the duration of the workshop. Enrollment for the entire duration of the workshop and payment in advance. No refunds. Class : 2H30 with one break of 10 minutes. Starts on floor. A series of stretching and strength exercises that awakens, opens up and give tone to all of the articulations and muscular chains without impact. The exercise strings are based on contemporary floor bar, The Pilates Method, yoga and release work. The standing work consists of a series of repeatable exercise phrases drawing from modern, contemporary and release technique and can include acrobatic aspects. Center floor phrases combine contemporary, release and acrobatics. It is very physical, spatial, generally organic but may include challenging counter-intuitive movements. It makes precise use of different directions as well as going in and out of the floor. Research and composition : 3H with two breaks of 5 minutes. This period is devoted to introduction and investigation into various tools and concepts useful in choreographic composition. Work will be done alone, in partnership, in groups and collectively. Among topics covered are: speed, amplitude and directionality modulation, stylistic cross-pollination. An investigation of the idea of "domain contamination" or the application to gesture and movement, of manipulation techniques such as those used in computer graphics or digital video: cut and splice, cross-fade, scrubbing, morphing, fusion, mirroring to different planes, deformation by contraction, extrusion, dispersion, undulation, fragmentation etc. There will be explorations into the application of these ideas to partnering, contact and group work.
