Hi Please find below my SUBMISSION OF A VERY BRIEF REPORT but I am afraid that it is not a conference that I am organising but a group exhibition/performance. The intention is to bring together artists and performers that are crossing between these two disciplines and the use of technology is an added dimension to this. My own work contrasts interactive computer installations with computer manufactured sculpture. One of the works is an art performance (dancing holding a video camera) made at a stone circle in Keswick, England and then using the co-ordinates of the stones and the performer a computer sculpture was constructed. The intention is to get this sculpture (on the virtual plinth) computer manufactured. The virtual scene replaces the abstract stones with figurative heads. The figure in the centre is now the abstract installation (sorry the photo is low resolution as I am rushing to send this to you). This crosses boundaries of process/product, abstract/figurative, nature/technology. The crossing of these boundaries is part of the expression of a transition between the mystical non-dualism and moral dualism. This is the concern of the exhibition. An attempt to reconcile the fundamental split between the experiential and the conceptual approaches to life. Below is a general statement about the show and practical details of how to submit work. VISION - To express something of the depths and limits of Human Perspectives across time and cultures in projects that combine artistic opposites. The experiential (abstract mystical) and conceptual (figurative moral) perspectives cannot be linked philosophically. Cutting edge artists are responding to this post-modern dilemma by creating static and performance based works that express the structure of human perspectives. By physically joining the art forms that relate to each perspective a link is made. This allows a catharsis and a removal of existential angst. The Project Exhibition. The first half of the exhibition is the display of work in a gallery space. Those works will then be used in interactive performances. The objects and results of these performances will then be displayed in the gallery. This crosses the boundary between interactive performance and visual arts. The project is for about 7 artists whose performances should be 10-15 minutes long. This is a first show that could lead to others. Please contact me by letter or e-mail for any clarification about the project. Submission. Artists’ proposals should be a description, with images, of the work they intend to exhibit, the performance relating to this work and then the resulting work that will be exhibited. Work need not have all the concerns set out in the shows philosophy but this gives a unified show. The images will be put onto an exhibition proposal which I will take to a number of East End and other London Galleries. This is an excellent way for artists to have their work shown to curators (as well a artists being promoted through internet web-rings and links). Please send photographs and printed images not slides. This is so that I can laser scan and copy these into a group format for presentation as an exhibition proposal. Please send a Stamped Self Addressed Envelope for the return of this material. Artists should also submit images of static works, performance works and works synthesising the two. These will be entered on the group website www.the-ism.co.uk as background to the show. Please include a paragraph explaining each and your art perspective and a brief CV. Meeting. After works are selected there will be a group meeting in London to give people the chance to meet each other and to talk about their proposed projects. The group show is my principal art project. It will be part of my research at Wimbledon College of Art for an MA in Theorisation of Contemporary Practice in Art and Performance. Participants will be documented and written about in an academic and critical evaluation. I will do the majority of the work but if people want to get more involved then they are welcome to eg. posters, invites, catalogue, manifesto. There will be an evaluation and summary of the project and the progress and contacts that the group makes will be shared. This progress will be compared for success against the original strategy and reviewed by members of the group. There is currently no funding available for transportation of works and a charge for hire of the space and insurance may be from £50 to £150 each. For insurance purposes a group of 7 should be $70 each and 4 week hire of a space may come to about $840 so this may be about $120 each.
