SPECIAL REGISTRATION IS OFFERED FOR SESSIONS FOR DANCE NOTATION
EDUCATORS WITHIN THE ICKL CONFERENCE
JULY 31 (1:00)- AUGUST 2 (NOON)

At this summer's Conference of the International Council of
Kinetography Laban (ICKL), there will be a concentration of sessions
for dance notation educators. A special registration is offered for
those who cannot come for the entire ICKL conference but wish to
attend these sessions, see attached form.

These sessions are co-sponsored by the Alliance for Dance Notation
Educators. They were planned in response to a need identified at the
inaugural meeting of the group last summer in Washington D.C.

The sessions were designed to meet three goals:

1. Introduce new innovations for the teaching of notation and its
incorporation in dance curriculum.

2. Provide something to notation educators that they can take back
and use with their teaching -- materials, ideas, teaching strategies,
inspiration to continue....

3. Discuss raising the levels of awareness of notation in the
academic community and address the issue of strengthening the
notation field and promoting its integration in dance education. A
specific plan of attack will be developed.

There will be sessions addressing the use of both Labanotation and
Motif with various age student populations. The presenters include
Loren Bucek, Mary Corey, Tina Curran, John Giffen, Mila Parrish,
Ligia Pinheiro, Valarie Mockabee, Karen Eliot, Billie Lepczyk, Sharon
Unrau, Jack Clark, Billie Mahoney and with welcoming remarks by Ann
Hutchinson Guest.

On August 1, there will be a lunchtime session for sharing of
teaching materials. Each participant is asked to bring class
materials using notation that they have prepared and used either in a
notation class or in another class in the dance curriculum and that
they are willing to let others use. There will be time to share how
it was used in class. All materials will then be posted for
downloading and educational use on the Teachers Bulletin Board, a
project of the Alliance of Dance Notation Educators with support from
Southern Methodist University and the Dance Notation Bureau.

There will also be working sessions in which participants can
contribute towards creating a plan for strengthening the notation
field and promoting its integration in dance education. This will
take place on Thurs. Aug. 2 from 9 - 12.

The sessions are being organized and led by Patty Harrington Delaney
and Ilene Fox. Contact Patty Harrington Delaney:
pharring@mail.smu.edu or Ilene Fox: notation@mindspring.com for
further information on these sessions.

On Wednesday August 1st at 7.30 p.m., a banquet is being planned at a
Chinese restaurant for all ICKL participants including those
registering for the July 31 - Aug. 2 education sessions .
Information and a banquet registration form is attached.

There will be a hands-on LabanWriter 4 workshop on July 30th from
2:30 to 4:00. Anyone registering for the July 31 - Aug. 2 sessions
may also register for this workshop for an additional registration
fee of $10. Registration for the workshop is limited and must be
postmarked by May 1, 2001. See attached registration form.

In addition to the concentration of education sessions, other
sessions incorporating notation into dance education are being
scheduled at various times during the entire conference. If you wish
information on registering for the entire conference, please visit
the ICKL website at http://www.ickl.org.

Also attached is information on housing. Please note, there is very
limited availability of university dorm housing and first priority
will go to those attending the entire ICKL conference.

The ICKL Conference dates are: July 26 (arrival day) - noon of August
2. There will be an opening night reception at 7.00 p.m. on arrival
day.
