Dear Madam and Mister,

Unesco organise each year a programme of residencies for artists in the
different fields of arts all over the work.

In this framework, Compagnie Gaara, contemporary african dance company based
in Kenya will receive during one month a composer and a video artist next
year.

We thank to to transmit this information to any artist who would be
interested to apply for this residency.

You will find below the description of this residency, the conditions of

 Residency in collaboration with the Compagnie Gąara, Nairobi, Kenya
                        (6 weeks)

                        The host and partner institution: created in 1998,
Gąara is the first
                        contemporary dance compagnie in Kenya. It is
dedicated to research, innovation
                        and collaboration around contemporary creation in
Africa. This residency is part of
                        its long term project for training, artistic
exchange and choreographic
                        development.

                        Discipline: video/installation.

                        Facilities provided: working/performance space,
contact with local artists
                        (including traditional musicians in the case of
composers), specific technical
                        equipment upon prior arrangement, costs and
allowances in the case of
                        production.  The artist will have the opportunity to
collaborate with a
                        choreographer in a new work towards either composing
music or creating a sound
                        installation in the case of a music composer or
either making a dance
                        video/document or video installation in the case of
a video artist.

                        Nature of the bursary: round trip, board, lodging,
and living expenses for six
                        weeks.

                        Dates: to be fixed by mutual agreement between
October 2001 and June 2002.

                        Eligibility: contemporary music composer interested
in working with traditional
                        sources or video artist with demonstrated ability
and commitment.

                        Working knowledge of English, Swahili or French
required.

 . Theatre, dance: press reviews, photos, video tape (VHS).

 . Music: audio cassette and/or scores (for composers).

 . Creative writing: copy of a manuscript or published text (no more than 10
pages).

 . Film/Video: a video tape (VHS). Please indicate the format on the box.

 (The applicant's name should appear on each item of artistic
documentation).

considered nor returned.
