<x-charset iso-8859-1>Dear list I am a theatre maker from dartington college of arts in england and am writing an extended research paper on the implications of new interactive environments, particularly those on the web. I will be comparing the moment of theatrical interaction/performance in a tangible/hard space with the mode and moment of ësoftí performance on the web. I am interested in the ways in which theatrical performance and composition are similar to new un-categorisble interactive works for the internet. A website is a composed environment storing information. The user of the website has to engage and respond to what they are presented with in order to draw an appreciation or meaning from the content of the site. Implications of new interactions The wake of the new leaves a residue on the shores of what we know. The seemingly exponential growth in the accessibility of new mediated forms of technological communication has allowed artists the opportunity to experiment with new mediums for work. Work exploring new communication media often raises questions of accessibility, interactivity, necessity and definition. As a theatre maker I am concerned with the moment of live communication between an audience and performance: the fabrication of a revelatory, time-based, composed and responsive environment encompassing the ëeventí and its participants. Recent advances in communication technology allow new modes of the kind of interaction I have been concerned with in my theatre practice, and I am now in a position to study the nature of these. I am particularly interested in exploring artwork done for the internet that has person to person interaction and responsiveness as a critical feature. So if anyone is familiar with or working in this field please respond either to the group to my personal email address. Please contact me with comments or for more detail. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Regards, Rob Ps. I appreciate that this is a dance list, and that there has been a lot of talk of theatre, but my field of research sits at the heart of both forms: the moment of performance and the relationship between the composed and the received. r xxx ===== robert walton visit the reading rooms at http://www.dartington.ac.uk/~r.walton/readingrooms see the documentation of my most recent project at http://www.dartington.ac.uk/~r.walton/document __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
