I hope it doesn't come off that way. Of course, we only barely know what we are doing, and then only in retrospect. ;-) Seriously, your points are well taken. This workshop is meant as an introduction. Typically, we have had dancers, choreographers, and other artists whose backgrounds have not included the use of media and technology. We often end up spending a lot of time on technical stuff, but we always try to steer the work towards discovering what electronic media tools can provide that we don't already have in great live performers? How can media allows us to provide stimulus to the audience that will take them in unexpected directions? (And us too, as artists.) It is a short time to provide such an introduction, no doubt. But most of the artists who attend (at least in New York) are working artists, which we prefer. But that also means that they usually have day jobs. Anything more than a week is usually very difficult for them to deal with, having to get off work and all, and losing their income for a week. (As a side note, for those who have attended who live in New York City, our home base, we have continued with meetings where they bring their work and Dawn and I provide whatever help we can. This helps the process go on past the end of the five days, though only for a subset of the participants.) Still, it seems to have been beneficial for those who have attended. The response is generally one of excitement and determination to go forward. I think that is our main point.
