query... vr and dance

<x-flowed>Hello --

My turn to ask a research question -- is anyone aware of a significant
project in the planning stages (a previous or extant one if I've missed
something) that involves a choreographer (of recognised stature in the
professional field) working with an immersive virtual or mixed reality
system such as the CAVE, other multi projection/ screen setups with
navigation devices (like Shaw's Legible Cities) or Head Mounted display...
that involves the audience in the experience. I know about Yacov's 'dancing
with the virtual dervish' and Mark Reaney's Institute in Kansas (theatre)
and happy to hear about initiatives in other places, but I'm particular
keen to know about European projects.

If my observations serve me correctly technologies such as these have been
explored artistically in the installation genre by the likes of Jeffrey
Shaw, Maurice Benayoun, Char Davies and Ulrike Gabriel. Recently Blast
Theory collaborated with the Mixed Reality lab on Desert Rain which is the
first, to my knowledge, where a sense of more or less theatrical time frame
has been imposed on this form of technology.

I don't think the CyberDance conceived and performed by the MiraLab, geneva
in 1997 is the sort of thing I'm looking for... really seeking plans for
audience immersion in some sort of VR type environment (as described above)
that also might involve live performers, not necessarily, but is clearly
the result of a collaboration with a choreographer/ dancemaker.

Any information out there?

tx in advance,

Scott
