Tenure Track Position - Dance
Position:

tenure track Assistant Professor appointment with a contemporary and
cultural dance perspective in dance training and education.
Qualifications: M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Dance with evidence of
outstanding credentials demonstrated through instruction, research in
higher dance education and professional experience in the field of
dance. Strong professional modern dance performance and dance education
credentials. University teaching experience required. Knowledge and
skills in instructional technology. Minority candidates encouraged to
apply.
Responsibilities: Teach beginning B advanced modern dance
technique and multidisciplinary based pedagogy as it applies to K-12
education. Teach two of the following areas: ballet, jazz, dance
history, science of dance training, theories of movement, a world dance
form. Integrate instructional technology in the coursework. Additional
responsibilities: supervise student teachers and administer their
placement in the school system; promote and facilitate the development
of public arts programs in state; oversee the Young Choreographers
Series organization, advising undergraduate students in all aspects of
their concert production (one Senior Exit Concert and one informal
student concert annually.) Program responsibilities includes
participation in the following: bi-annual grade-assessment juries in
the major/minor modern technique classes; annual faculty panel
contributing to the aesthetic development of the students' creative
work; bi-annual major/minor auditions; Department, College and
University committees. Additional responsibilities: assist in the
department's maintenance of undergraduate program and the development
of a graduate program.

The UGA Department of Dance, located in Athens, 1.25 hours from
Atlanta, offers the degree B.S.Ed. and proposed BA and B.F.A. degrees
have been submitted for University review. Four-tenure track and
two-four part-time faculty members conduct choreographic research and
service thirty-five undergraduate dance majors, thirty-five dance
minors, and 600-800 core and elective university students each year.
The UGA Department of Dance is educational oriented, offering teaching
certification through the College of Education. The dance department is
professionally oriented, housing two pre-professional dance companies:
CORE Concert Dance Company and UGA Ballet Ensemble. Each company
presents annual full-evening concerts and performances on tour. Dance
flourishes in Athens' vital musical and artistic climate. UGA's PVAC
and FORTE series present professional dance companies on campus each
year. Ballroom Performance Group, CORE Concert Dance Company, UGA
Ballet Ensemble and the Young Choreographers Series offer annual
performances in the New Dance Theatre, a flexible theatre space housed
in the department facility. The NDT contains both automated
"intelligent" instruments and conventional stage instruments, and the
professional sized stage consists of a state of the art sprung floor
and 30 foot rear screen video projection capacity. The dance facility
contains four naturally lit sprung floor studios and a media center.
