FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Capture scheme funds new screen based dance works

The Arts Council of Englandís Dance Department has announced the launch
of Capture, a scheme, which will fund ten screen-based dance production awards.
The aim is to encourage a wide range of moving image media productions, and
proposals are invited from both emerging and established artists and arts
organisations.

Priorities for Capture are projects that:

… build expertise and explore the creative potential of the chosen medium
… develop new relationships with collaborators across disciplines
… research and develop the use of new and existing technology in creating,
distributing, exhibiting and archiving dance
… enhance and challenge conventional notions and models of dance

Hilary Carty, The Arts Councilís Director of Dance said,
ìThrough this new initiative we are looking to raise the artform profile
and allow for an
interesting range of the most creative ideas that hit the overall mark of
screen based dance work.ì

There will be five awards of up to £5,000 and five awards of up to £20,000.

Guidelines are available from the end of November and the deadline is 26
January 2001.

For details of the scheme contact Lauren Scholey on 020 7973 6490.

Potential applicants are advised to contact Dance Officer, Jennifer
McLachlan on
020 7973 6488 to discuss their proposal and entry level before submitting
