Come and explore the world of interactive dance, where dancers become
musical performers via real-time computer music systems and video
tracking technology. PALINDROME Inter-Media Performance Group, a
joint collaboration between N¸rnberg Germany and CEMI (Center for
Experimental Music & Intermedia) at UNT, will present their work in
preview of the Monday, November 20th CEMI concert.

Composer Joseph Rovan (CEMI / Palindrome composer-in-residence),
choreographer Robert Wechsler (artistic director) and Frieder Weiş
(technical director) will address the artistic, aesthetic as well as
technical issues that arise when composers and choreographers
collaborate using interactive dance systems.

The presentation will include demonstrations of PALINDROME'S
custom-built "EyeCon" video-tracking system and a demonstration of
some of its features, including: movement recognition, movement
analysis, position recognition, color tracking and symmetry analysis.
The real-time synthesis environment built in MAX/MSP will also be
demonstrated, along with a discussion of the dance gesture to
synthesis mapping strategies.
