The Ohio State University announces the November 22 release of danceCODES 1.0 and December 11-13 danceCODES workshops at The Ohio State University. DanceCODES is a device which provides dancers, choreographers, archivists, producers and scholars with a simple way to digitally archive works of dance which can be output to CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. It is a pre-programmed shell which organizes archival materials into an interactive, non-linear, multi-media presentation. The product is ideal for those whose knowledge is limited in multi-media development, but have the need to create archives that are digital, easily retrievable, and layed-out in a presentational and conceptual fashion. DanceCODES is also the ideal point of departure for those who want to embark on the learning curve of digital documentation. A working understanding of content preparation including video digitizing and editing, image scanning and image processing is necessary for the use of danceCODES. The danceCODES manual does attempt to explain the complete creation process including these preparation phases. Those who are completely new with digital video, and image processing are encouraged to take advantage of the danceCODES workshop or to enroll in basic multi-media classes locally. THOSE INTERESTED IN RECEIVING A FREE COPY OF THE DANCECODES CD (which includes a sample danceCODES project documenting RAIN by Bebe Miller), should contact Roberta Shaw at shaw.146@osu.edu.
