dance and technology zone -- histories

<x-flowed>Hello list,

A couple of recent posts regarding research into dance/ tech have inspired
me to mail this. As some of you know, Mark Coniglio and I put together the
DTZ site (http://www.art.net/~dtz) in early 1997... after he and I (and
Dawn - Troika Ranch) met in September 1996 during the period of the first
Future Moves Cyberstudio in Rotterdam. Incidentally, the third Future Moves
is about to take place in a week's time (15-19 nov) in the context of DEAF
(http://www.v2.nl/deaf) as organised by Anne Nigten of V2 Lab -- John
McCormick from C.I.S. is coming from Australia to team up with Maja
Kuzmanovic to facilitate the workshop...

Before the DTZ [Dance and Technology Zone] the Ohio State University server
(mentioned in recent post by Luke Kahlich) provided a who is who list and
other useful overview and archival information on the dance/ tech scene
(http://www.dance.ohio-state.edu/files/Dance_and_Technology/who-what-where.html).
The Dance and Technology Conferences I, II and III were held between 1992
and 1995 with the IDAT (international dance and technology conference) at
ASU/ ISA in 1999 -- you won't find links to I, II and III because there are
no websites for these that I know of, but there are proceedings published
at least for I and III and you can order these through Surrey University's
National Resource Centre for Dance http://www.surrey.ac.uk/NRCD/.

In addition, there has been this dance-tech list in operation for, Scott
how many years? -- thanks to Scott Sutherland, who moderates and maintains
this list.

The Dance and Technology Zone was set up to attempt to provide what I still
believe is a useful informational site to the community that would include
artists and organisational links / bibliography links / critical writings
on line / a do it yourself zone / an events page / an archive for the
mailing list -- all this is currently searchable. What is NOT current, as
many of you MUST have realised by now, is our ability to keep up and
maintain the site. Mark and I have not done much to the DTZ for some time
-- I personally have not had the time to update my areas of the site for 2
plus years.

And it is simply a matter of not having enough time -- Mark and I have
become too busy with a range of other projects. So, in the past year I have
approached a couple of Universities about possibly lending a hand in
maintaining it. They have expressed an interest, but nothing concrete yet
-- so we would like to open up this invitation to the list. This would be a
good research project for students -- all that is necessary are basic HTML
skills....

If anyone would be interested in e-discussing this please post to Mark or I
separately on back channels at dtz@art.net --

Regards,

Scott deLahunta
