POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Production Manager/Technical Director, Department of Dance, The University of Georgia Responsibilities of the position fall into three areas, listed in priority order: 1. Production Management/Technical Direction - Oversee all production aspects of department concerts, touring, and other offerings 2. Dance Media Center and Technology Development - Serve as liaison with University computer and media personnel to coordinate maintenance of computer, audio, and video equipment in the Dance Media Center 3. Facility Management - Serve as liaison between dance faculty and University physical plant personnel and with suppliers, supervising maintenance of facilities to ensure safety and optimal performance of students and faculty Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Dance or Theatre with specialization in production; two-three years experience in some area of technical work, professional or academic; expertise in computer technology and theatrical mixed-media production; communication skills; management and organizational skills; experience in light design for dance a must. Duties Include: Provide technical direction of the New Dance Theatre, a flexible theatre space which became fully functional Fall 1999 and which includes a lighting console controlling both automated "intelligent" instruments and conventional stage instruments Design lighting for studio concerts and for some main-stage concerts, for stage aesthetics ranging from classical ballet to post-modern Provide set design and construction when needed, for stage aesthetics ranging from classical ballet to post-modern Oversee stage management for all department productions Manage transportation, pre-arrangements, load-in, operation, and load-out of all technical concerns for off-site performance situations Conduct student workshops on various production topics, particularly as they relate to crew assignments Coordinate maintenance of computer and editing equipment in the Dance Media Center Facilitate faculty use of all audio, visual, and computer equipment Facilitate faculty interaction with audio and video professionals Supervise maintenance of facilities (with special attention to studio floors), ensuring safety and optimal performance of students and faculty Supervise the purchase, inventory, and maintenance of all theatrical equipment, audio and video equipment, and musical instruments Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Dance or Theatre with specialization in production; two-three years experience in some area of technical work, professional or academic; expertise in computer technology and theatrical mixed-media production; communication skills; management and organizational skills Application deadline: December 1, 2000 or until position is filled.
