Dear Group,
As promised, here is "Phase Two of Hellerau:
Procedure.
schedule for first week:
11 - 12 body warm-up for all
12 - 14 eyecon group session (advanced features, Q&A, but also work on
projects and one short group piece with the system
14 - 15:30 lunch + Discussion session
15:30 - ... project work
16-17 dancers training
17-19 rehearsal for Mr. Wechsler's piece
At last count 8 projects are underway.
One involves making the brain waves of an audience member visible as they
experience various systems of media. For example, a dance done in silence,
then the same movement material with classical music, and again with an
interactive musical environment.
One project has the performer leaning their head against the wall. They
are visible, but more clearly still we see their face projected
large-screen. Using touchlines and dynamic fields it is possible to
generate triggers for eye movements (right and left), eyebrows, opening and
closing the eye (right and left), as well as different mouth movements and
so on. Each movement is used to trigger fragments of speech (extracted from
the Dutch language of the performer).
-----
Unique to my experience leading these workshops is the fact that in this
one I am actually able to work on a piece which interests me _as an
artist_. I hope this doesn't sound snobby, but I think most teachers will
know what i mean. This is partly credit to the producer (Dr. Klaus
Nicolai, Kultur und medienzentrum Pentacon in Dresden). But I also credit
the level engagement and technical savvy of the participants. Its a fun
mixture of tasks and there is generally little difference between my role
and anybody else's.

BTW, the foto I attached to "Phase I" was made by Daniela Lorenz (Together
with Susan Härtig she is making a docu film of the Hellerau workshop.)
