Apologies for Cross-Postings The Contemporary Arts Faculty at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK presents: Intensities: Praxis and the Body A Symposium on Practice-Based Research. 30. September-1. October 2000, Alsager Intensities provides a platform to share and discuss current practice-as-research projects in the Performing/Live Arts. Postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers working in and outside the UK will present and discuss their work, its research rationale, its place in the academy, and its effects on our disciplines. Intensities is framed by keynotes from Dr. Lizbeth Goodman, Director of the Institute for New Media Performance Research at Surrey University, Dr. Susan Melrose, Rose Bruford College, and Prof. Mike Pearson, Aberystwyth University. On Saturday evening, PhD candidate Anna Fenemore will launch the practice component of her work at MMU, The Pigeon. Research students, supervisors and interested artists and academics are invited to the event. Cost: £20 for registration and dinner, £15 for accommodation, limited availability. The symposium also invites artists interested in pursuing practice-based research to inform themselves about this exciting field, and to discuss potential projects with the research staff at Alsager, MMU. Some funds for postgraduate research are available.
