Last night we had the opening of 2 new works: Ceyx and Philomela Ceyx , a virtual melodrama in 7 shattered scenes, on the "stage" the virtual (in the original sense of the word) images move behind glass and shift , appear and dissappear when the spectator moves along. The work unfolds itself in 20 minutes, music: Silence and Quartet 2 of Sofia Gubaidulina, even the music moves through the score and shifts its starting point slowly forward within one day . All dance was filmed on location, with a 16mm camera and converted to digital video, using our own translation process,(16mm-black &white -to slightly coloured video) In the computer the movements were manipulated and edited to become 7 different films that would start at one exact point (syncstart) and that would make it possible for the dancers to move from one screen to another. All screens of the monitors are only virtual visible behind glass. The different glass-screens are placed in such a way that the images appear spatially behind , in front and also next to each other. One can see different performances, depending on one's own position in space. Philomela is a virtual appearance in the narrow entrance of a men's toilet, a horrible story., a neverending sequence... (voice and a remix of a remix of proverb) Both works are based on 2 stories from the Metamorphoses by Ovid and inspired by very old theatre-techniques from the time people came to the theatre to see an actor fighting against a (virtual )ghost and were amazed by Phantasmagorias . We combine these techniques with the possibilities of digital manipulation of images, and film-projection and editing. The exhibition is in the hall and toilet of the Rotterdamse schouwburg in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. (1hour from Amsterdam by train) and open every day from 11.00 till the end of the last performance. From the 1st of june till the 15th of june. no entrance fee. Just to let you all know, in case anyone is interested and around. Greetings, Angelika Oei ( choreographer and filmmaker)
