We are currently using, for general classroom/production purposes, the very affordable Canon Ultrua DV cameras, which indeed come with Firewire in/out ports (plus the usual RCA and SVHS ports). I think the Ultura does all you may need to to, but if you want a higher quality camera, look for the SONY TRV900 digital (I think 3 chip). It has superior lens and records better under low light.
