CONFERENCE

Saturday 01

Site Gallery, 1

The Spring events kick off on 1st
April in Sheffield with Documentation: The New Art? a day combining critical
debate and practical training around the many issues and modes of documentation,
including exploration of video, sound, on-line editing, text, CD-ROM and
websites. Split into two halves it will combine practical taster sessions,
critical debate, chances to view other artists' documentation and essential
networking opportunities.

In the morning there will be the
opportunity to participate in two of the following workshops looking at
practical approaches to documentation: video camera, sound, website and
CD-ROM design and on-line editing. The afternoon will be dedicated to
exploring critical approaches to documentation through discussion and debate and
looking at examples of good practice. Speakers will include Barry Smith
(Live Art Archive), Karen Smith (Yorkshire Arts Board) and James Yarker (Stan's
Cafe).

The Documentation Conference will
explore the complex issues around documentation of live work - its role as
archive, as legacy, as promotional tool, as stand-alone artwork and the
challenges presented in trying to represent multi-faceted and multi-sensory work
through a range of media. It will then go on to look at a range of new
media and the varying appropriateness of the ever growing range of new formats
now on offer.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!
WEEKEND

The second event takes place at the
green room in Manchester, over the weekend of 29th and 30th April, and is a
regionally focused event, looking at the live and performance sector in the
North West.

Calling All Artists!
has two main strands - starting with an open invitation to artists come
together to discuss the issues surrounding live work and will offer a positive
challenge to set-up initiatives and/or feedback to the funders and venues what
the sector needs to reinvigorate the scene. From this opening debate, the
weekend will then move on to put into practice its mission of encouraging live
work with a series of creative making sessions - an open ended opportunity for
artists to come together to share skills and ideas in a couple of days of
pressure free creative exploration in a collaborative environment. Above all
Calling All Artists! is about making connections, reducing
isolation and exploring possibilities!
