The Barriedale Operahouse takes over the ICA bar and theatre as part of the
ICA's regular Club Night series to provide a night of music, film, dance and
interactive performance. A fusion of media and performance and club worlds
for a dynamic, immersive environment - conducted by Barriedale's custom
written performance software - with mesmerising effect.
An experiment into the fluidity of an interface between performers and their
audience - Cay is a carefully constructed template for performance, which
borrows the atmosphere of the ICA bar.
To summarise Barriedale Operahouse's recent activities:
BOH premiered the first implementation of the 'ChoreoGraph' software
prototype with our performance of 'Solo one' at the GDA (Nov.1998) and
hosted 'SHIFTS' in Feb '99. BOH lectured at ARTEC, the Laban Centre and at
the ICA on performance technologies and have also completed an article on
the same subject for the Performance Research Journal. Barriedale has also
been involved in work for both the English National Ballet and Opera
companies. In March '99 BOH took part in Spring (Loaded) Collection,
presenting a version of 'Solo one'. In August BOH premiered our club-night
'Cay' at Subterenia and premiered 'Peripheral Dinner Entertainment', a
computer-controlled dance installation based on BOH's constantly developing
real-time choreography software. SHIFTS'00 took place at Chisenhale in
January 2000.
